Pray the Family Rosary!

“The rosary is the WEAPON for our times!” 🙌🏻🙏👊 Saint Padre Pio

I remember the rosary hanging on my parent’s van rearview mirror. Pulling it out during car rides, attempting to calm us eight rambunctious kids.

I remember memorizing the Hail Mary as a kid, the rote words that became a staple of my prayer life.

I remember caring for dying patients, requesting to hold their beads.

I remember times of suffering or anxiety. When my oldest turned two, waiting for a sibling, and clinging to those beads during his naptime. Finally conceiving and knowing why we named him Dominic.

I remember witnessing the evangelization of the rosary on Instagram. One Hail Mary at at Time encouraging the nightly ritual, imperfect children and all.

The other night I was really stressing. I grabbed hold of those beads and felt my heartbeat slow.

Friends, let’s make it happen this October! Whether it’s the first time or it’s been ages. Set a timer for 15 minutes, print out the prayers, light a candle and hide your phone. You won’t regret it 😘 Especially tomorrow on the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary!

Tips for starting family rosary prayer:

  1. Lower expectations. With little kids aim for 5-10 minutes.

  2. Give kids a job; handing out rosary beads, lighting the candle or sharing who to pray for. (toddlers might swing and throw, sometimes we set aside blocks for him ;)

  3. Keep a family basket of pictures or intentions for the kids to pick out.

  4. Find a rosary account you love! So many great ones to help us #choosejoyonline Chewslifeshop, The Catholic Company, Refuge Rosaries, Novena Cards, Smallthingsgr8love & The Little Catholic!

  5. Find a rosary book you book! My two favorites are The Secret of the Rosary by Saint Louie de Montfort & Rosary Meditations from Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Our rosary time is NOT perfect! Complaining, throwing, eye rolling happen. But also does hand folding, children stating pure intentions and learning their faith!

“God doesn’t ask us to be successful, he asks us to be faithful.” Mother Teresa ❤️

“This month of October must be very special to each one of us, as it is the month during which Our Lady invites us all in a very special way to contemplate with her mysteries of Jesus’ life that she shared so fully, through our fervent praying the Rosary. Yes, we must always be very faithful and never give up praying the Rosary.” - Mother Teresa
