Carschooling

Spring 2022

I remember the first time I heard this term (can’t remember where) but I completely fell in love with it!!! YES! Spending so much time in the car as a mom, why not make it educational!? I remember playing car games as a little girl taking trips with our 8 kids (the I spy, or ABC games or honk it, or praying the rosary ;) and this is exactly what we were doing. Using the time in the car (not as an escapism with screens) but as a time for family bonding and learning. I LOVE it. My favorite way is to use books on tape! We still only have a CD player in our mini-van, (better if you have bluetooth and can connect from your phone!) but I’ve found many helpful resources we’ve been loving!

  1. Holy Hero’s Glory Stories

  2. Narnia on CD

  3. Praying: using rosary CD’s on tape, memorizing Bible verses together, saying morning offering and prayers together etc

  4. Sport Radio

  5. Adventures in Oddessy (I actually don’t like this one anymore, find the kids a little whiny, but I saw another mom recommend so tried it, but the boys still love listening to it!)

The key is to CALL it car-schooling ;) because you realize this is what you’re doing together with that family time in the car. You’re learning and forming bonds together. Yes, there’s many times I plug in my AirPods and just let the kids zone out too. But the idea is to always look at is as an opportunity ;)

What else do you love to use!? Happy car schooling!

Love, Alex
