My Forever Valentine: Building a Marriage That Lasts

February 13, 2024

13 years of Valentine’s on this 13th of February. I remember our first Valentine’s Day together (pic below!) we were newly engaged and couldn’t wait to be married. We had both saved ourselves for each other and longed for Catholic spouse above all (hello, CatholicMatch!) I look at this picture now 13 years later and can’t help but be so full of gratitude and emotion. Marriage, a Christian (specifically Catholic) marriage, is incredible. Knowing that you are both on the same page of faith is so reassuring and certainly is what has gotten us through the good times and bad. No matter what: we are committed to the same God, the same church, the same faith. No matter what - we both know we will be in church on Sunday with our family (and likely multiple other times throughout the week!) we know we will get our butts to confession, and we know that we are always praying for each other. It’s beyond comforting and beyond incredible.

When I was dating - I finally realized that faith was the most important thing I wanted in a man. Praise God, for finding Nick, who is exactly that man I prayed for. Through these last 13 years of job changes/losses, house disasters, 5 childbirths, health crisis’s, etc etc, he has never left my side and I know he never will. Although luckily for us the good very much outweighs the bad - we are truly so blessed, thank you, God! When the bad happens - he turns immediately to prayer, brings me the rosary when I need it and forgives me time and time again. No marriage is ever perfect - hello, being human! But with God’s grace - we can truly overcome anything together.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the day to day life of parenting or business of life without pausing to celebrate what you have. If you’re in a Catholic marriage - you have everything you need. Nothing is impossible with God. Go immediately to the sacraments, schedule a date and celebrate this Valentine’s day! Of course, even Valentine’s Day is Catholic! (hello, Saint Valentine!) Sometimes we forget how lucky and blessed we are.

Thank you, Nick, for being my forever Valentine. I know there is only so much more amazing memories and dreams to come - I love building this family legacy with you! My Superman and hero, I love you!

Marriage is under attack and we need to support each other and build up our own marriages every day! Let’s work hard on the little things and try to do our duties with love:

  1. Write a letter to your Valentine.

  2. Pray and keep God at the center.

  3. Have fun together.

God bless all husbands, wives and marriages out there this Valentines! (This was us at a work Gala right before I was hospitalized for anemia and auto-immune flares but God gave me a pain free night which was incredible and we danced and had so much fun together, praise God! Look at the beauty of growing up in marriage together. Praise Jesus.) Tell us how you’re celebrating below!!!
