Lesson: Being on Time with Kids

Spring 2022

We learn from our mistakes, not our successes ;) After making SO many mistakes with these 4 kids trying to be on time for things. After getting in accidents from being in a rush, (falling on the steps holding Andrew in a rush to run upstairs and grab my phone! Oh, how much I regret rushing!!) I’m trying to come up with plans and action steps for our family to make things run smoothly as we leave together. Remember, Moms are smart! Moms are amazing. We learn from our mistakes and we constantly seek to improve for the sake of our kids. Of course the faith and our saints always have amazing answers ;) Here’s a caption I shared on IG that really resonated! Hopefully it can help you :)

***After learning the hard way in many failed, always running late with kids attempts this is my FAVORITE QUOTE that helps, one every mom needs to save ;)!!!!

”Never be in a hurry, do everything quietly and in a calm spirit. Do not lose your inner peace for anything whatsoever, even if your whole world seems upset.” Saint Francis de Sales

Tips we’re trying when leaving the house with kids:

1. Aim for 15-30 minutes earlier, actually change the clock/watch! I’ve done this on the microwave, even changing it 5-10 minutes ahead & it gives that extra breathing room;)

2. Anticipatory guidance - telling kids the schedule the night before, or as earlier as possible. “Tomorrow morning church is at 9am.” Etc. It’s always a harder rush & meltdowns when suddenly “we have to go!” “Hurry up we’re late!”

3. Keeping extra wipes/diapers/socks/outfits/coffee mugs whatever stocked in car! It’s the worst when I keep having to run back & forth in the house for these things haha

4. Repeating St Francis quote! It’s a spiritual life secret learning to keep inner peace when things are crazy around you, I’m still learning!

5. Praying before or after loading in the car! Giving TONS of grace to your stage of motherhood! Prayer calms everything. Yes, the baby will poop blow out as soon as you have him loaded ;) yes, the toddler will suddenly be hungry etc! Haha but these kids will only make us SMARTER & find out NEW WAYS to be on time, or new ways to find a groove in life ;) NOT the opposite!

Having kids & learning to live family life is NOT an embarrassment, it’s a blessing!!!

With 4 boys, ages 8 & under we’re always looking for tips & tricks! ideally learning to center ourselves for what should be the main event of the week - the Mass! Just trying to avoid that rush into church (or any event ;) & always asking for grace :) Ladies, what would you add?! What helps you leave the house (joyfully ;) with kids?!

Ps. Remember to smile at the mama running late, she’s really trying her best!

In Joy,

Alex
