The Three C's: Have fun with labels

Labels can be a helpful tool! I know so many moms get frustrated with all of the different “labels” in motherhood, for example, are you a SAHM/WFHM etc!? Every time I vent to Nick about it, he’ll remind me, “why not say you’re a mom?” haha but parts of us humans love labels. They help us to identify with others, “find our people,” so to say. The thing to look out for is judging others and yourself negativity due to labels.

However, the other day I was processing how I felt about something and I realized how helpful it was for me to label myself with my own opinions. I called it “The Three C’s.” It seemed to anchor most of my views. So here are mine, and I challenge you to think of your own labels and then to allow yourself to CHANGE them and adapt as needed! Remember, a label is NOT your overall identity - which is a daughter of God! And that will never change! These labels can be flexible and changing through seasons and life stages :) Ok, here are mine, “The Three C’s” ;)

Catholic - the FIRST label I identify with and honestly what shapes my every decision in life.

Conservative - politically and also within family life. realizing how much I love the word “conserve” and also the traditional roles of marriage and family. Of course with still living in the current culture! ;)

Competitive - love healthy competition! Realizing this as a boy mom, firstborn and type A personality, and praying that God can refine this from perfectionism into holy work for the kingdom! Also, to have FUN with my boys in teaching them virtues in a big family learned from competition ;)

What are your labels? How have they changed through the years?

In Joy,
Alex
